Annual DSE Update - Terri Savage/Janice Yetter

Slides available here:

Question regarding timeline for implementing strategic plan items - Some of those things were mentioned in the report given to the board of education.  http://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/hcpssmd/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=BAWHJV48C28B

Other items in the strategic plan are ongoing and cannot be marked as complete.

Question regarding efficiency.  DSE needs to improve how the items are measured.  The impact of some of those items are not being measured.  Grants are often used to study impact.  Specific schools that pilot programs are used to gather data.

Question regarding self advocacy for non-public students.  The district is bringing in the staff from non-public schools train on how to encourage their students to self advocate.

There is a program for middle school girls to improve social skills.  It meets once per month.  It's a good place for parents to connect as well.

Question on using the tutorial classes for standardized test prep.  It's hard to do everything in tutorial.

Question on professional development.  They do their big training during the County-wide professional development days.  Administrators can require their staff attend certain trainings.  There are grants that can provide substitute teachers.  Recently para-educators received behavior training.  All paras and student assistants (SAs) were required to attend.  Attendance was taken and provided to school administrators.

Question on training staff on the Endrew F SCOTUS decision.  Training has started with administrators and will go from there.
