Elville, J.D., LL.M. Attendees will learn what is involved in the planning process for an individual with special needs and their family, and the importance of preserving the loved one’s financial security and quality of life. The key issues of understanding the role of public benefits, making decisions about the future, and using estate planning and trusts to protect assets will be discussed along with the types of special needs trusts and their specific purposes. The “planning team concept” will be introduced — how your planning team (attorney, financial advisor, CPA) can work together to help provide your family peace of mind during the special needs planning process and beyond. Also presenting will be Cheslea Hayman, Outreach Manager from Maryland ABLE, who will share the latest information about Maryland ABLE account, a new way to help individuals with disabilities save money and pay for qualified disability-related expenses without jeopardizing state or federal means-tested benefits such as SSI or Medicaid.
