Thursday, September 8, 2022 4:00 p.m.

Virtual Event

Positive reinforcement inspires more consistent motivationand better learning outcomes for children with ADHD, who are more sensitive torewards and punishments than are their neurotypical peers. Research showsthat positive reinforcement (rewards for achievements) changes the brainat the cellular level; it also shows that children with ADHD are more likely tobecome frustrated and give up when they don’t receive anticipated rewards forcompleting a difficult task. Yes, punishment may keep a child with ADHD on taskin the short term, but studies show that punishment, or the anticipation ofpunishment, may carry serious long-term consequences if the child’s emotionalregulations skills are weak. Given these findings, how might educators andcaregivers more effectively approach motivation and behavior modificationfor students with ADHD? To register, please visit
