Emotional dysregulation is a less oftentalked about challenge associated with ADHD, and those with ADHD also tend toexhibit more anxiety and depressive symptoms. Parents, who feel overwhelmed byrelated emotional and behavioral challenges, may over-function or engage inpower struggles and other ineffective but understandable attempts to gaincontrol. Develop a brain-based understanding of emotion and behaviorregulation, which fosters empathy, and learn more effective parentingstrategies to enhance lagging executive skills. Parenting practices that focuson supporting and guiding allow children/teens to draw on their strengths tocope, providing a sense of ownership that is crucial for the development of ahealthy sense of self.
