Thursday,September 9, 2021 1:00p.m.

Virtual Event

Individualswith ADHD are enrolling in two- and four-year colleges and universities inincreasing numbers. In fact, nearly one in 11 college students has ADHD.Regardless of good outcomes attained in high school, college students with ADHD especiallybenefit from interventions, services, and accommodations in higher education. Manyadolescents face challenges transitioning from high school tocollege, but the abrupt loss of parental support and increaseddemands for self-management especially impact young adults with ADHD. Preparingstudents with ADHD for college should start well before they step on campus andit should focus on improving executive functioning skills (e.g.,organization, time management, planning). Expert Kevin Antschel will review thelatest research on preparing high school students for college and managing ADHD once in college toincrease the odds of successful academic and social outcomes. You will learn:
How parents can help their high school students develop skills to ease the college transition
Specific services, accommodations, and interventions that benefit collegestudents with ADHD
How to reduce stimulant diversion and engagement in risky behaviors (substanceuse)
How to mitigate the negative impact of comorbid depression in college
Strategies for accessing services and accommodations on college campuses
