EMPLOYMENT IS FOR EVERYONE nSaturday, May 18, 2019 8:30am – 1:00pmnColumbia Workforce Center n7161 Columbia Gateway DrnColumbia, MD 21046nA workshop for parents and families of transitioning youth with disabilities. The keynote presentation is Employment is for Everyone by Ann Deschamps, Ed.D., Senior Research Associate, TransCen, Inc. Employment for all means there is a job for everyone who wants one, regardless of disability. Unfortunately, unemployment and underemployment are the status quo for many young adults with disabilities. It takes parents, educators, providers and others expecting something different if outcomes are going to change. The presumption of employability begins with changing expectations. Fostering a culture of high expectations better prepares students with disabilities for college and career, and our expectations play a major role in transition planning and post school outcomes for young adults with disabilities. This presentation will explore how expectations can lead to better post school outcomes and explore ways we can work together to improve employment options for students with disabilities. nBreakout sessions include: nPanelists sharing County/State Employment ResourcesnPanelists sharing Employment PerspectivesnLinking the IEP Process to Employment. Where’s the Connection? nSponsored by the Transition Outreach Partnership. Attendance is free, but registration is required. Please visit https://app.donorview.com/r49z
